Built on Canada's standard of care for weight management, by the team that helped write it.

The Canadian Adult Obesity Clinical Practice Guidelines define how obesity is treated across the country, and our Medical Director, Dr. Yoni Freedhoff, is one of the co-authors. Behind him is a team with over 50 combined years in obesity medicine, behavioural science, and nutrition. Constant Health is the working version of everything that experience taught them, refined across two decades of direct clinical practice with technology woven in to change our support from being episodic to constant.

Where it started

Launched in 2004, the Bariatric Medical Institute (BMI) was one of the country's first truly interdisciplinary weight management programs, founded when obesity was still being treated with fads and willpower lectures. Physicians, dietitians, fitness experts, and a psychologist worked together, all focused on behaviour. That combination was rare then. It's the foundation everything else was built on.

Trusted to do more

Over the years, BMI earned a reputation for excellence, which eventually led the Ontario Ministry of Health to ask the team to develop a paediatric obesity program that is still running today across Ontario. The same reputation opened the door to partnership with the Ottawa Hospital, where the team began working with bariatric surgical patients, building the behaviours that help the surgery last. Adults, children, surgical patients, all with evidence-based treatment focused on behaviour change.

Why we built Constant Health

By 2019, the team had expertise most people couldn't reach, locked inside one clinic and available only in person. We wanted to change that. Done right, a virtual program wouldn't just match what happened in the room, it could improve on it, because support could finally continue between appointments instead of stopping at the door. Constant Health is the result.

Our Philosophy

Success isn't a number. It's a life you can enjoy.

Best Weight

Best Weight is a term Dr. Freedhoff coined in 2007 when he co-authored a clinical textbook about weight management. Your Best Weight is whatever weight you reach when you're living the healthiest life that you actually enjoy. It comes down to two questions. Do you like the life you're living? Could you keep living with it? If your approach runs on suffering or restriction, the answer to both questions is no, and it likely won't last.

Diet

You've probably been told it's about taking things away: foods you can't eat, rules you can't break, a list of behaviours that humans are unlikely to sustain. We go the other way. Your dietitian helps you add: more protein, more food that fills you up, more of what fits your life. Restriction is what you've tried before. This is the opposite.

Exercise

Exercise won't drive the number on the scale, at least not the way most people would expect. What it does instead is remarkable: it protects your health, your mood, your sleep, and how you age. So we coach it for what it's actually good for, not as a way to burn off lunch. Our take is simple: some is good, more is better, everything counts.
